India and RIM have settled for now

RIM, the creator of BlackBerry, and the government of India found an agreement to stop their ongoing quarreling. RIM and India have a conflict about governmental access to RIM's secure messaging services.

It seems to be India who has won the battle. The government of the country will be granted the right of access to messages sent by BlackBerry users in India. Eavesdropping on mobile messaging is a common practice for many secret services. India wants the option to do that on BlackBerry messaging as well.

Ban

India threatened to ban BlackBerry from the market of the country, if eavesdropping wouldn't be made possible. A ban on all devices created by RIM would be a major drawback for the company. India is a growing economy with a billion possible customers, so the county offers many opportunities for RIM.

Although the deal between India and RIM is temporal only, we expect RIM to eventually take its lose, and allow the Indian government to access its servers permanently. Commercial chances will make the company choose the option that makes it possible to stay in India.
