For mobile producers the word 'App Store' is already the word of 2009! Nokias answer is the Ovi Store in which consumers can download applications for their device. It seems that the Ovi Store is already quite full at the time of the release.
Nokia announced the Ovi Store during the MWC event in Barcelona at the beginning of this year. At the moment it appears that the Ovi Store is opening its doors by the end of this month and is already having about 20.000 applications.
On the new N97 the Ovi Store will be available through an application, earlier devices will have to go to the Store through a webbrowser. Future devices will be integrated within the Store, just like the N97.
Ovi Store also for S40
The Ovi Store is not only meant for smartphones, but also for S40 devices. The Ovi Store combines the best qualities of the current services and can be used in more than 150 countries. It also advices you items that have been downloaded or recommended by your friends.
