Windows Phone 7 may be released this summer

An internal document that was sent by the American telecom-provider demonstrates that smart phones running on Windows Phone 7 may be available soon. Microsoft before stated that Windows Phone 7 would be available as late as holiday 2010.

The document, meant to be used by AT&T store employees, surfaced at Engadget. It's clear that stores in the US are being prepared for the advent of Windows Phone 7. For now, it remains unknown which smart phone manufacturers will release a Windows Phone 7 phone first.

Possibly available this month in the US

According to Engadget, the fact that WP7 appears on this AT&T sheet, may point at a US release of the new mobile OS in July or September.

The rumours of a quick release come a week after the painful discontinuation of Microsoft’s own smart phone project KIN. After that major drawback, the mobile division could well use some good news. Microsoft’s current mobile OS, Windows Mobile 6.5, has lost its market position to competitors iPhone and Android.
