Sharp: 3D-phone will come this year

The Japanese manufacturer Sharp is planning to bring out a 3D-phone this year. According to the company, an annoying pair of glasses is not needed to see the 3D-effect. A spokesperson confirmed the planning in an interview with Reuters.

Sharp is the largest producer of mobile phones in Japan, but its worldwide marketshare is small. Should the short term introduction of a 3D-handset succeed, Sharp may be back in town. The screen will not be the only 3D part of the planned phones. The camera will also support 3D, Reuters says.

Involvement in KIN

Before, Sharp was partner in Microsoft's KIN-project. Both phones in the series were a flop. Rumours say that the number of sold devices is somewhere between 500 and 10,000. Its means that the results have been awful in any case for a multinational like Microsoft, that sees competitors like Apple sell millions of handset in a week.
