Google releases Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code


Google published the code of Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.1. This new version of Android will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which was presented last month.

The source code enables manufacturers to download the new version of Android, and put the first steps forwards toward updates for existing devices. Several manufacturers have already announced to give updates for their phones and tablets. Also, apps developers can use the source code to test to their apps on the new platform, and make any necessary changes.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the first version of Android for both smartphones and tablets. The OS combines the features of Android 3.2 Honeycomb and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. A large number of features of Android Honeycomb also comes to the smartphone. We expect the first updates in the first months of 2012.
