OnePlus 8 product details

The OnePlus 8 is the 8th generation flagship killer and much more compact than previous years. It is not so much shorter but narrower, so it becomes easier to handle. What other innovations OnePlus has given this OnePlus 8, whether it is worth upgrading or whether you should go for the OnePlus 8 Pro we will try to explain here.

Old ideas sold as new?

OnePlus announces a new flagship every six months and therefore the differences between generations are not very big. The 3 main differences with the OnePlus 7T from half a year ago are 1) the new location of the selfie camera 2) 5G support and 3) a much larger battery. Yes there is also a new generation Snapdragon processor installed but because the OnePlus phones naturally feel so fast we doubt if you will notice the difference. So that leaves us with the new selfie camera. It's no longer in the middle of the screen in the form of a notch, but in the left corner in the form of a punch-hole. It will be a matter of taste what you prefer. OnePlus says that the selfiecamera has a diameter of only 3.8 millimeters and therefore takes up less space. As a result, the status bar shifts a bit to the right.

5G support and larger battery

All OnePlus models released in 2020 now support 5G. However, this will only be useful as soon as 5G is rolled out nationwide. As expected, this will take some time. It's nice to know that your OnePlus 8 will be able to handle this new technology and will not become redundant by then. In other words, this OnePlus 8 is future proof. You will be helped by the considerably larger battery. Compared to the 7T, this battery is 13% larger. Fast charging is possible thanks to Warp Charge 30T; 22 minutes and 50% of the battery is full again. If you want to be able to charge wirelessly you have to switch to the OnePlus 8 Pro. This also applies when you want a waterproof phone. Even though this OP8 can withstand a splash, it is not officially waterproof.

Main OnePlus 8 specifications

  • Big, smooth but not that wide Fluid AMOLED screen
  • Triple camera system (48 + 16 + 2 MPixel) but without zoom
  • Double nano SIM card slot (Dual SIM support)
  • Powerful processor (Snapdragon 865) with at least 8GB of RAM
  • 4G and 5G support for lightning-fast mobile internet

Many similarities except zoom

After the introduction of this OnePlus 8 we got the idea that it has been kept a bit 'small' in order to create enough distinction between it and the larger OnePlus 8 Pro. So there are many similarities with its predecessor. Think of the Fluid Display with its 90 Hz refresh rate for a nice and smooth experience, the triple camera on the back and the always very snappy feeling OxygenOS. Our advice is to also take a look at the OnePlus 7T when considering this 8. This is especially true when you want a camera with zoom. OnePlus swapped the telephoto lens with which you could zoom in without loss of quality for a macro lens for close-up shots. From now on, zooming is only possible with the Pro version.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro announced with major improvements

...but mainly for the 8 Pro

Phone news ·

During an online press conference OnePlus announced the OnePlus 8 series. Due to the coronavirus, the public was not allowed to attend, so a hands-on will follow later. The OnePlus 8-series has a lot of improvements, but you can find these in the more expensive Pro.

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are OnePlus' first phones with 5G support. These are not the only innovations in the 8th series. This year, OnePlus is introducing more differentiation between both models. The OnePlus 8 is considered the 'compact' model as far as a 6.55 inch phone is concerned. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the big brother that is equipped with all the new gimmicks.

OnePlus 8 Pro: much more exclusive

In the OnePlus 8 Pro you'll find most of the new features including a 120 Hz display, waterproof IP68 rating, wireless charging at up to 30 watts and a Quad camera system. The latter is particularly interesting. The 8 Pro has a 48 megapixel main camera with f/1.7 lens, a 48 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with 120° angle of view, a 3x telephoto camera for 3x hybrid zoom and 30x digital and finally a color filter camera for special effects.

Besides conventional colors such as Ultra Marine Blue and Onyx Black, this year there is also a Glacial Green version with Matt Frosted finish. Prices start at 899 euro for the Onyx Black version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and 999 euro for the Glacial Green and Ultra Marine Blue color with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. OnePlus 8: New course

The OnePlus 8 now counts as the smaller brother and OnePlus does not only take this literally but also figuratively. In terms of specifications OnePlus calls it flagship-worthy, but compared to last year, not much has changed. The screen measures 6.55 inches and has a Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The device no longer has a telephoto zoom camera, but has a less versatile macro lens.

The larger 4300 mAh battery is a welcome update but is not wirelessly rechargeable, as the OnePlus 8 Pro can. Also, this model is not certified waterproof. However, there is a new Interstellar Glow color version that is difficult to photograph. This unique color is not expected until May 4. The other colors Onyx Black and Glacial Green can now be ordered and will be for sale on April 21st. Prices start at 699 euro for the Onyx Black and Glacial Green color with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage, and 799 euro for the Glacial Green and Interstellar Glow with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage.

Everything about the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro just leaked out

Rumors ·

Thanks to the excellent work of WinFuture we have a complete picture of the OnePlus8 and OnePlus 8 Pro that will be announced on April 14th. All specifications are out in the open.

OnePlus itself already shared are large amount of information so we know a thing or two about the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Everyday they seem to leak a bit more information. On top of that, new information is leaking from all around the internet. This time from WinFuture and in particular Roland Quandt.

OnePlus 8 hero

Because of all the recent leaks, there are few surprises to report. Clearly, OnePlus wants to differentiate more between the regular OnePlus 8 and the more expensive OnePlus 8 Pro. Thus, only the latter gets the waterproof IP68 certification, wireless charging and a higher 120 Hz refresh rate. Oddly enough, the simpler OnePlus 8 has the better selfie camera thanks to a brighter f/2.0 lens instead of the f/2.4 we find in the Pro.

Both models are equipped with a Snapdragon 865 so they can both handle 5G connectivity. The screen diagonal of the smallest one comes out at a still large 6.55 inch. The Pro version tops an enormous 6.78 inch. The latter gets a camera system consisting 4 sensors; 48 + 48 + 8 + 5 megapixels. The regular OnePlus 8 has a single 48 megapixel with 16 megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2 megapixel macro camera. That used to be different. The OnePlus 7T has a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The 7T also has a higher ultra-wide-angle camera of 16 megapixels.

The real progress seems to be found in the OnePlus 8 Pro. This will also be the first OnePlus model with support for wireless charging. Expect both models to be announced on April 14th. We expect them to be on sale soon after that.

TechRadar: OnePlus 8 series coming mid-April

Rumors ·

According to sources close to TechRadar, OnePlus will launch the new OnePlus 8 series consisting of a regular 8, an 8 Pro and an 8 Lite in the second week of April. Although they write that this is sooner than expected it is exactly half a year after the introduction of the 7T series. Exactly on time and on schedule.

Of the OnePlus 7T series, another regular 7T, a 7T Pro and a 7T Pro McLaren Edition were released. This year we are also taking into account 3 different models but a 8 Lite. Never before has OnePlus released a Lite model; that was not necessary either. The company has just become known as a price fighter.

The alleged OnePlus 8 Pro

But now that her models have become more and more expensive over the years, there is room for a simpler and, above all, cheaper model. Whether it will indeed release a Lite version remains to be seen. In the world of telephony, nothing is certain until it is announced and in the shops.

Specifications OnePlus 8 series

Much of the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro has already leaked out. That way we know what they are going to look like, how big they are going to be and what specifications they will get. So it seems that the OnePlus 8 is the first OnePlus phones with an official waterproof housing. An IP rating was lacking in previous years. Also sounds wireless charging in the corridors. A higher refresh rate of 120Hz has already been officially announced by OnePlus and 5G support also seems a good candidate.
