Exclusive: Fairphone Gen. 6+ with more memory and new color coming soon
Disappearing white Gen. 6 hints at upcoming announcement
According to a reliable source, Fairphone will soon release an upgraded version of the Gen. 6. The Gen. 6+ is expected to have more RAM than the original model and come in a new color.
The source bringing us the news about the Fairphone Gen. 6+ today is the same one that was the first to tip us off about the existence of the Fairphone Gen. 6. That was in May 2025. Now Fairphone believes the time is right for an interim update. This update takes the form of a RAM upgrade from 8 to 12GB. The storage capacity remains at 256GB.
Incidentally, this kind of interim plus model isn’t unusual for Fairphone: in 2020, the company released the Fairphone 3+ as an improved version of the Fairphone 3, although that was six years ago.
More memory, also known as RAM, is useful for running many apps simultaneously and smoothly. AI apps like Google Gemini, which comes pre-installed on the device, also benefit from this.
Increasing the RAM is a notable move these days. There is currently a severe shortage of memory chips due to the AI boom. We are therefore concerned about the expected price, which we have not yet been able to obtain. The Fairphone Gen. 6 with 8GB of RAM was originally released for €599 and, at the time of writing, costs just €516.
In addition to a boost in RAM, Fairphone is planning a new color for this sustainable device. The 12GB version will soon be available in Horizon Black, Forest Green, and a new color: Cobalt Blue. This means a Cloud White version is unlikely. In fact, the white version of the Gen. 6 is currently no longer available separately, so it may be phased out.
The question that remains is when Fairphone will announce the Gen. 6+. We’ve noticed that the white Gen. 6 has been unavailable separately since Tuesday, July 28, so the answer might be: soon. Unfortunately, our source doesn’t have any more information on that at the moment.
It is noteworthy, however, that our source has not provided an embargo: such a publication ban until an agreed-upon date is customary for truly confidential information, so its absence is usually a sign that the announcement is imminent.
Buy Fairphone now or wait?
What does this mean for anyone currently considering a Fairphone? If you don’t need 12GB, you can safely go for the current Fairphone Gen. 6; its price has already dropped significantly since its launch and may be discounted even further following an announcement. Those who do want the extra memory for apps and AI should wait for the announcement, though the price of the Gen. 6+ remains anyone’s guess.
