Nokia X30 product details

The Nokia X30 5G is a smartphone made largely of recycled materials. The device's maker, HMD Global, also recycles some old familiar Nokia technologies such as PureView and GoPro Quick. What you get out of that and whether it also advances this X30 read here.

PureDisplay screen

HMD Global currently places Nokia phones into three series; C-Series, G-Series and the X-Series. Our X-Series should "push the boundaries of what the industry can offer with unmatched reliability and promises of durability." In other words, midrange phones with nice specifications and that last. The X30 hopes to deliver on that promise with a 6.43" large AMOLED display. Neat is the high peak brightness of 700 nits to make it readable even in full daylight. Animations look somewhat smooth thanks to the 90Hz refresh rate. 120Hz would have been neater and would also have suited its asking price better. The same goes for the processor chosen.

PureView camera

On the back we find a dual camera of 50 and 13 megapixels. The main camera features optical image stabilization (OIS) which results in sharper shots even in low light. By applying larger pixels, HMD Global even dares to give it the name "PureView." To us, that term is synonymous with groundbreaking camera technology. And although the X30's camera shoots quite nice shots, we don't think it's worthy enough of the name. The secondary camera features an ultra-wide-angle lens with 123° wide viewing angle. Ideal for capturing landscapes in a single image. A separate zoom camera is missing. You will have to zoom digitally which unfortunately always results in less sharp images.

Buy a phone, plant a tree

The X30 5G is made of 100% recycled aluminum. Something you should never see because the frame inside is made of that. That's not true of the plastic outside. 65% of that is also recycled. You also receive three years of Android upgrades and three years of monthly security updates. The longer you use your phone, the more sustainable the X30 becomes. To give you a hand, HMD Global plants at least five trees for you when you purchase an X30. To do this, it has partnered with Ecologi. They manage various forests worldwide to make the world a little greener.
