Google puts presentation new house style Android 16 online too early
Google will present a new house style for Android 16 during Google I/O. It will be called Material 3 Expressive and, like Material 3 and Material You, is part of Material Design. Google accidentally put the presentation of Material 3 Expressive online too early.
Like unannounced Pixel phones, Google also knows not to keep this news a secret from us for long. Earlier, a publication managed to retrieve the first screenshots of Android 16, now the entire presentation is out on the street. Very different Android 16 does not look very different, these are subtle differences, but with more color and more shapes.

Thanks to the presentation, which was briefly on Google's website online but saved by WayBackMachine, we learn more about the background of Material 3 Expressive. For example, Google learned mostly from users, through 46 different studies involving a total of 18,000 people. These looked at how people responded to certain design choices, what they looked at with their eyes and how quickly people understood a particular interface.
Preference for expressive designs
One concrete result of all this is a new progress bar that seems to load faster and belongs on a premium phone. Google also looked at how big buttons could get before they were perceived to be too big. The lessons Google drew from this are that people especially appreciate expressive designs where they "feel something.

In Android 16, that will result in "the use of color, shape, size, motion, and containment." So expect more color, more shapes and more animations. As a result, Android 16 should be better, more convenient and easier to use than Android 15 but still feel familiar and familiar.
