Nvidia invests heavily in Nokia, does this mean the return of Nokia smartphones?
AI is booming, which is why Nvidia's graphics cards are selling like hotcakes. And we see that reflected in Nvidia's stock; the company's market cap just passed $5 trillion. No company has ever done that. But Nokia is also benefiting from this, it seems.
Because Nvidia is buying new shares of Nokia for $1 billion. The two companies also announced they will work together. This will allow the Finnish phone manufacturer that caused a furor in the 1990s and 2000s with models such as the 3310 and later Lumia to continue innovating. We need not expect new phones; Nokia will focus more on data centers and high-speed 6G Internet.

Despite not having to count on new Nokia models for now, it is still good news for smartphone enthusiasts. For example, the collaboration between Nvidia and Nokia could mean that we will soon be able to better run AI applications on the go without putting too much strain on the network. Future AI apps could respond faster and new applications may become available that we can only dream of today.
Deployment of 6G
And the rollout of 6G is also on our radar although it will be some time before we will find it in practice. However, testing for it is already underway. For example, T-Mobile in the US is working with Nvidia and Nokia to test AI-RAN technologies. That should happen sometime in 2026.
