What should you look for in an Asus Zenfone?
First things first: Asus won’t be releasing any new phones for the time being. In January 2026, the company confirmed that no new Zenfone or ROG Phone models would be released that year, and CEO Jonney Shih said shortly afterward that Asus would not be adding any new phone models in the future. Asus does note, however, that software updates and warranties for existing devices will continue. So buying a Zenfone is perfectly fine, but keep in mind that there won’t be a successor and that inventory in stores is slowly running out. Compact flagship? That was especially true for the older models
The Zenfone owes its reputation to the generations that packed a top-of-the-line chip into a small device, at a time when virtually every other flagship was getting bigger. That’s no longer the case for the latest models: the Zenfone 12 Ultra has a 6.78-inch screen, making it just as large as Samsung’s Ultra devices. What do you get for your money?
The Zenfone 12 Ultra was released in February 2025 with a suggested retail price starting at 1,099 euros. For that price, you get a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and a 5,500 mAh battery, plus a range of AI features added by Asus itself. That’s solid flagship-level specs, but the hardware is no longer cutting-edge.
