How do realme phones really differ?
- Price range: the lineup ranges from entry-level models to devices at the lower end of the mid-range, with each step offering a faster chip, a better screen, and a better camera.
- Update cycle: the number of years of software support varies by series and generation and is listed with each model.
- Network: Not every model in this overview supports 5G, so be sure to check that if you plan to keep the phone for a few years.
What the devices in this overview have in common is Android with realme UI on top. If you’re switching from another Android phone, a realme will feel familiar, and you can transfer your data the way you’re used to.
Choose a realme if you’re looking in the entry-level and mid-range categories and don’t mind customer service in English.
Choose a different device if you plan to use it for four years or longer and the update period isn’t specified for the model: in that case, you’re buying into an unknown timeframe.
Take a critical look at import offers: the manufacturer’s warranty is valid only in the EU country of purchase and only through realme or an authorized retailer.
Which series does realme offer?
In Europe, the lineup consists of a numbered main series, the GT series, and the C series. Outside of Europe, realme offers other lines, such as Narzo for the Indian market; if you come across such a model here, it is an imported device. The series overlap in terms of price and specifications, and the balance between them shifts with each generation, so use the series name as a rough guide rather than a definitive classification.
realme UI: the software
realme UI changes the layout of Android and adds features. You can see which version is installed on your device by checking the model. Please note: realme does not publish in a single central location how many Android versions and how many years of security updates a model receives. This makes it difficult to compare devices in this regard. However, for phones released in the EU on or after June 20, 2025, there is a legal minimum requirement of at least five years of security updates after a model is discontinued. If you want a device that will last a long time, check the model to see what period applies.
Warranty: Be Careful Where You Buy
realme offers a 24-month warranty on phones in the EU, with two conditions that really matter for this brand. The warranty is valid only in the EU country where you purchased the device, and only if you bought it directly from realme or from an authorized retailer. If you purchase the device outside the countries officially served by realme, or from an unauthorized retailer, the device is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. This is stated in the warranty terms and conditions. The Netherlands and Belgium are, however, on the list of official sales regions.
A cheap import offer is therefore less attractive than it seems: you retain your legal rights against the seller, but the realme brand warranty is not included. Therefore, before making a purchase, ask the seller in writing whether they are an official realme dealer and whether the device comes with an EU warranty, and keep that response with your proof of purchase. If you buy directly from realme or from an authorized retailer in the Netherlands or another EU country, the manufacturer’s warranty does apply.
