Buy the Google Pixel Watch 5: What You Need to Know
Google announced the Pixel Watch 5 on August 12, 2026, with August 20, 2026, as the release date. The watch comes in two case sizes, 41 and 45 millimeters, and for each size, you can choose between a Wi-Fi model or an LTE model for mobile internet access without a phone nearby. The suggested retail prices at launch ranged from 419 euros (41mm, Wi-Fi) to 549 euros (45mm, LTE). You can see what you’ll actually pay for it now in the overview above.
That said, the Pixel Watch 5 isn’t cheap: in the United States, Google raised the suggested retail price by $30 to $50 compared to the previous generation.
Battery life: the most important consideration
The battery is the weakest point. Google estimates 30 hours for the 41mm and 40 hours for the 45mm with the screen always on; in battery-saving mode, that increases to 48 and 72 hours, respectively. In practice, that means plugging it in every night or every other day, especially if you’re also tracking your sleep at night. Charging is fast, though: a 15-minute charge gets you halfway there; the 41mm model is fully charged in 45 minutes and the 45mm model in an hour. If you want a watch that lasts for days or even weeks, check out Garmin.
What’s new compared to the previous generation?
The improvements are mainly on the inside.
- More storage: 64GB, double that of the previous generation, so there’s room for offline music and maps.
- Faster: the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip delivers about 12 percent more processing power, and the RAM has increased from 2 to 3GB.
- Brighter display: the AMOLED display peaks at 3,000 nits, enough to be readable in bright sunlight.
- Wear OS 7.0 with Gemini: you can ask questions and control the watch using Google’s AI assistant.
- New health metrics: detection of breathing issues, trends in blood pressure and insulin resistance, and—according to Google—a 15 percent more accurate sleep tracking. Which of these features are available in the Netherlands varies by feature.
You need an Android phone
Google requires a phone running Android 12 or newer. This rules out the iPhone: if you use iOS, you’ll end up with the Apple Watch. Your health and fitness data also run through Fitbit, which Google has built into the watch. That’s convenient if you already use those apps, but less so if you’d rather not link yet another Google account to your heart rate.
Pixel Watch 5 or another brand?
Choose the Pixel Watch 5 if you have an Android phone and want to track your steps, heart rate, and sleep in Fitbit and Google.
Choose a Garmin if battery life and accurate fitness metrics are more important to you than apps and notifications.
Choose Samsung or Apple if your watch needs to integrate seamlessly with your phone.
Would you rather wait for a price drop? At smartwatch deals, you’ll find the watches that are currently on sale. Keep in mind, though, that a brand-new model rarely goes on sale right away.
