Foldable iPhone Ultra hinge fails Apple’s standards, launch in jeopardy?

Apple is aiming to release its first foldable device before the end of the year, but it must first resolve an issue with the hinge. According to insiders, no 3D-printed hinge has met Apple's strict quality standards yet, and time is running out.

Before the iPhone Fold (or iPhone Ultra as some call it) goes into mass production, a pilot production run will take place. As a result, Apple has already approved the screen. This is said to remain largely crease-free even after frequent folding. With the hinge, things are different.

According to insiders, not a single unit has been approved yet. The main concern is reportedly reliability after frequent opening and closing. Apple is reportedly using a 3D-printed unit where irregularities are filled with filler material. This method is similar to the hinge in the Oppo Find N6. Perhaps the hinge in the iPhone Fold makes a ticking noise after frequent use, but it is also not inconceivable that something else is going on.

Looming Delay for iPhone Fold

Like the hinge, time is starting to tick for Apple. There is little time left to fix the problem. The deadline for a September announcement is fast approaching. It is possible that Apple may delay the launch of the iPhone Fold. An announcement could then still come in September, but with a slightly later release than the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
