New footage confirms Sony Xperia 1 VIII redesign
New renders have emerged of the anticipated Sony Xperia 1 VIII. The renders are reportedly based on the CAD sketches used for manufacturing. The images seem to confirm that a redesign is coming.
These renders published by @InsideSony also show that Sony is moving away from vertically stacking the three rear cameras. The Xperia 1 VIII will feature two side by side with one underneath. The camera sensors sit on a square platform that protrudes very slightly from the back.
Not only that, it also partially extends to the side. This updated design is therefore very reminiscent of the Contour Cut layout of the Galaxy S22. Samsung moved away from this design starting with the S23 series, to the delight of repair technicians who had great difficulty opening the back. Now Sony seems to be throwing a spanner in the works again.
Xperia 1 VIII features unchanged front
Renders of the front of the Xperia 1 VIII have also appeared, and they immediately disappoint. At least, for those who had hoped for a hole-punch selfie camera in the screen. Sony seems to be sticking to bezels above and below, leaving plenty of room for the selfie camera.
The renders show the Sony Xperia 1 VIII in three different colors: purple, olive green, and black. Possibly this is the artistic license of the source and not the final colors. We can also see that the black version is shown larger than the other colors. It is still unclear if this is intentional and if the device will soon come out in two sizes.
