Huawei is planning a comeback in the smartphone market outside of China. During an international press conference in Shenzhen on October 3, CEO Richard Yu said that the company wants to return to the global market with its own operating system, HarmonyOS. This is just a plan, not a final decision. Yu did not mention a date, countries, or devices. For the Netherlands, this would mean the return of a brand that virtually disappeared from stores following the U.S. trade ban.
Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3, but the reasoning behind its design is unclear. For the first time, the tracker is compatible with iPhones, which already have a great alternative in the AirTag. Pixel, Xiaomi, and Motorola device owners still cannot use it. The Netherlands will have to wait until at least 2027.
Vivo has announced the X500 series in China, consisting of the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max. The brand is skipping the X400 and moving straight to a 2nm chip, 8,000mAh batteries, and a 200MP Zeiss telephoto lens. Sounds too good to be true? There is one important caveat for the Netherlands: the cheapest model will not be available here. The big question is whether the massive battery will actually make it to Europe.
In addition to the iPhone Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple announced new AirPods: the AirPods 5. The most notable change is not in the sound quality, but in the price. Active noise cancellation is now standard, whereas it cost an additional €50 with the AirPods 4. The AirPods 5 cost €149 and will be available in stores starting September 18.
