What should you look for in an Honor N-series phone?
The N-series is Honor’s numbered mid-range lineup: you pay significantly less than for a Magic flagship and sacrifice mainly processing power, not camera quality or battery life. That’s more than enough for calls, messaging, social media, videos, and photos. Only demanding games and heavy video editing require a more expensive device. Lite, Standard, or Pro: What’s the Difference?
Each model in the series comes in multiple versions. These differ mainly in the chip, camera, and charging speed, not in design or software.
- Lite: the entry-level model with a large screen and long battery life, but a simpler chip and a weaker camera in low light.
- Standard: the mid-range model with a faster chip and a better main camera. This is usually where you get the most phone for your money.
- Pro: the most expensive N variant, featuring an additional telephoto lens and faster charging. Price-wise, it’s already close to a discounted flagship model.
The camera is the selling point
Honor is heavily focusing on megapixels in the N series. The Honor 500 and 500 Pro, for example, feature a 200-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and an 8,000-mAh battery that charges at 80 watts. However, more megapixels don’t automatically mean better photos: sensor size and image processing matter more. What’s more important is whether it has a true telephoto lens. That’s usually only found on the Pro models; on the other versions, zooming is digital and therefore noticeably softer.
China First, Europe Later
Honor releases its series in phases: first in China, then in Europe, sometimes with modified hardware. The Honor 500 series launched in China in November 2025 without a confirmed international release date, and with the Magic8 series, the European version had a smaller battery than the Chinese one. In addition, devices newly introduced to the EU market since June 20, 2025, are subject to a minimum of five years of operating system and security updates (EU regulation).
When you take a closer look at the Magic series
Choose a higher-end model if you want the fastest chip, the most powerful zoom, or a foldable screen. The Magic Pro models feature Honor’s most powerful camera hardware, while the Magic V foldables unfold into a small tablet. Both cost several times as much as an N-series device. On the other hand, if you’re mainly looking for a great screen, a good daytime camera, and a battery that lasts all day, you’ll hardly notice that price difference in everyday use.
