Honeycomb will come to smartphones

In a video in which Android 3.0 Honeycomb is introduced, it seems to be clear that the new version of Google's OS is only meant for tablets. However, Sony Ericsson said that the Xperia arc would get an update.

With the announcement, rumours that Google is working on a separate version of Android for tablets are debunked. Android will not be splitted up in a tablet and a smartphone edition. The rumour that Honeycomb requires a dualcore processor seems to be not true as well. The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc has a singlecore processor, and will be upgraded tot 3.0, says Nathan Vautier, who works for the English and Irish firm of Sony Ericsson.

Entirely for tablets

The claim that Android 3.0 Honeycomb is 'built entirely for tablets', thus doesn't make it impossible to run on smartphones as wel. Good news, we suppose. Splitting up Android may slow down the development of both branches. Using the same system on both types of devices, on the other hand, is probably to the benefit of both.
