Apple iPhone Air 2 addresses 2 biggest pain points: larger battery, dual camera
Apple has listened to the criticism of the iPhone Air. The successor, according to new rumors, will have a larger battery and a dual rear camera.
The original iPhone Air was a technological marvel. With a 5.6-millimeter body, Apple said you could still enjoy it for a day. And clever software allowed you to shoot everyday photos with a single 48MP Fusion camera. From many field tests, however, the battery often proved too tight, and the photo capabilities too limited.

That appears to be where the iPhone Air 2 is headed. Thus, a Korean publication reports that the successor to the Air, not expected until 2027, will get a thinner, more energy-efficient and brighter screen.
The gain? That space will be used directly for a Larger battery.
Release iPhone Air 2 not until 2027?
Should a release occur in 2027, Apple will have time to assess whether it can adopt a Silicon-Carbon battery. Competitors are currently adopting this battery technology, but Apple has so far been reluctant to do so. Apple wants to be absolutely sure that the technology is safe and reliable. Only then will these Si-C batteries be applied in iPhones. Safety first.
It will be exactly 20 years in 2027 since Apple introduced the iPhone. Rumors of a completely buttonless iPhone have been circulating for some time. For that, the iPhone Air 2 seems to be the suitable candidate. A button takes up a relatively large amount of space, and the Air does not have much of that.
Current sales figures: Air vs iPhone 17
For now, sales of the current iPhone Air lag behind those of the regular iPhone 17. That's not surprising; the Air fulfills an entirely different role. With its thin profile, it is a statement, showing what is technically possible anno 2026. One that still performs all the basic functions, but has a very different look.
