Nvidia is getting ready to bring is phones and tablets with a quadcore processor within a year, is the conlusion that can be drawn after studying a sheet that displays the company’s roadmap that describe the successor of the popular Tegra 2.

In spring, Nvidia will come with the Tegra 2 3D, which supports 3D video. The maximum processor speed is topped up to 1.2 Ghz. In fall, Nvidia will present the Tegra 3. That chipset will bring even greater changes. The number of cores will be doubled to four and the clockfrequency goes to 1.5 Ghz.

Faster smartphones

With processor like these in tablets and smartphones, they’ll become trie musclemen. We had no complaints about the performance of the first phoen with such a processor, the LG Optimus 2X Speed, but now it seems like the handset will be overtaken by even quicker phones.

Another interesting improvement concerns the graphical performance, specially the screen resolution. With the Apple iPhone 4, we saw that Apple improved the sharpness of the screen by increasing the resolution while maintaining the same screensize. In the future, we'll see even higher screenresolutions. The Tegra 3 supports resolutions up to 1366 x 768 pixels on the smartphone, and 1920 x 1200 pixels on tablets.
