Unfortunate: No 7-year updates for Samsung Galaxy A55

We had hoped that Samsung would also provide the upcoming Galaxy A55 with 7-year OS updates, just like its recent Galaxy S models. But unfortunately, Samsung has very different plans for this device.

The web page where Samsung says it will announce the Galaxy A55 on March 11 states the following. "Stay up-to-date with 4 OS upgrades* and 5 years of security updates." Samsung further reserves the right to deviate from this without further notice. Well, isn't that lovely.

Samsung 4 OS Upgrades, 5 Years of Security Updates

Still, four Android upgrades are more than reasonable. Assuming that the Samsung Galaxy A55 comes out with Android 14, it will at least receive Android 18 sometime in 2028. And the final security update one year later in 2029. By that time, your A55 will probably be due for replacement anyway.

Same software promise as last year

Samsung recently extended its update policy for the Galaxy S24 series to 7 years. That goes for OS upgrades and security updates. The Galaxy A series sticks with four years, as in previous years.
