Will the S8000 Cubic become Samsungs first Android device?

We have seen the Samsung S8000 here before, also called the Cubic. Now, according to the latest rumours, this device is apparently Samsungs first Android smartphone.

But, an affordable one! We don't want to suggest that it is just a simple device: we would categorize it as mid-range.

Wordt de S8000 Cubic Samsung's eerste Android toestel?

Some of the specs are: fast 3.5G internet (UMTS and HSDPA) or via WiFi, A-GPS position fixing, a 5 megapixel camera including autofocus, integrated FM radio receiver with support for RDS, a 3.5 mm audio jack, 2 GB of internal memory (with the possibility of extending it with a MicroSDHC memorycard) and a 3.1 inch WVGA resolution AMOLED display. The device has a display of 108,9 x 53,5 x 11,9 mm and has a 1100 mAh battery.

Android?

But it is not confirmed that it is Samsungs first Android phone. The device does has Samsungs own TouchWiz userinterface. And we have doubts whether Samsung is ready to develop Android software that is able to replace the Android own widget-system. Moreover the Cubic does not have a keyboard, and that could mean that Samsung has to use the new Cupcake version. The only problem is that this is not available yet, not even for developers. Nonetheless, the Cubic does seem to be very similar with the Andorid prototype we have seen at a press conference.
