Google Previews Gemini Intelligence in Android 17
During The Android Show, Google highlighted some of the features of Android 17, including the star of the show: Gemini Intelligence. Gemini is a suite of smart AI features that will all become part of the platform. This article explains what you can do with it.
Gemini is Google's smart assistant found in almost every Android smartphone today. Starting with Android 17, Gemini becomes even more intelligent; Google calls this Gemini Intelligence. It is context-aware, promises to keep your data safe, and aims to make everyday tasks just a little easier.
Some components of Gemini Intelligence in Android 17 include:
- Rambler
- Intelligent Autofill
- Create my Widget
- and Automate the busy work
Rambler is the new dictation feature in Gboard. It does not transcribe your stream of speech verbatim but summarizes it so that an unstructured story remains understandable for the recipient.

Intelligent Autofill makes it easier to fill out long forms on your mobile, including passport details if you have a photo of them in Google Photos. You can choose whether or not to grant permission, based on what you're comfortable with.
From Android 17, you can also add custom widgets to the home screen and your Wear OS watch. These retrieve information from Google apps or the internet. They are also resizable after being placed on your Android home screen.

Finally, Gemini can automate tasks by asking about things on your screen, such as compiling shopping lists for you or booking tickets for an upcoming concert.
Android 17 with Gemini Intelligence builds on Material 3 Expressive but includes more glowing elements, bearing striking similarities to the Liquid Glass Apple introduced in iOS 26. Expect the first Gemini Intelligence features on select Galaxy and Pixel phones this summer. Whether all demonstrated features will be released in Dutch remains to be seen; previously demonstrated features sometimes remained US- or English-only.
