Samsung reassures S Pen fans: support will return to foldables someday

A top Samsung executive has shed more light on future Samsung foldables with S Pen support. The company is not ruling out future models with stylus support when the time and technology are right. Would it be ready in time for the long-awaited tri-fold?
The pen is mightier than the sword. Many stylus fans had written off their frustration at the lack of S Pen support on the Fold7. Samsung is now forced to respond, and the reaction is surprising.
Samsung is not done with the S Pen on foldables just yet, although it may be a while before the stylus returns to the Galaxy Z series. So reports Minseok Kang, head of Samsung smartphone planning. The scrapping of S Pen support would not stem from user desire, but was the result of tradeoffs.
Galaxy Tri-Fold?
So Kang does not rule out the possibility that we will see the S Pen in revamped form in a foldable phone. Whether that will already be the upcoming tri-fold remains to be seen. Its unveiling may be expected as early as October, which is too soon. Moreover, the tri-fold smartphone will also have to be very thin and thus run into the same tradeoffs as the Fold7.
"The Fold 7 was designed with an emphasis on what consumers want: a thin and light product. Think of it as a 'tradeoff': if you choose one, you lose the other. ... We are researching and developing a thinner and more innovative S Pen. When perfection increases and there is consumer demand, we will rethink it."
Meanwhile, Samsung has registered a new name; the Galaxy Z TriFold. Whether this will be the actual name is all but certain. Earlier, the name Galaxy G Fold was still going around. Whatever name it ends up being, we won't be seeing the device here for now anyway. Samsung is rumored to release the three-piece foldable only in South Korea and China. Only upon success there is a wider release expected.
