OnePlus unveils Nord 5 and Nord CE5; many similarities except price
OnePlus has released two new phones. Both have a large screen, a 5,200 mAh battery, and 80W fast charging. However, they have two very different price tags. The difference in price between the two phones is €170, and we're going to explain why.
Two new OnePlus phones in the Nord series, we're talking about the Nord 5 and the Nord CE5. What was it like again? The Nord is the more affordable series in which OnePlus releases affordable smartphones. And the CE, in turn, is a subseries of that with even more affordable phones. Do we still get it?
OnePlus Nord 5
The OnePlus Nord 5 features a generous 6.83-inch screen with razor-sharp 1.5K resolution, smooth 144Hz playback and 1800 nits of bright image. There is a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Zooming can only be done digitally up to a whopping 20x. For the main camera, OnePlus applies a Sony LYT-700 sensor that is 1/1.56" in size. This also partly explains that the same camera resolution does not necessarily mean the same.
Inside the Nord 5 we find a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 with 8 or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM memory and 256 or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. OnePlus ships the device with OxygenOS 15.0 which is based on Android 15 and with a promise of four OS upgrades and six years of security updates. Available colors are Phantom Gray (gray), Marble Sands (white) and Dry Ice (blue). Prices start from €499 but during the introductory period, €50 will be deducted.
OnePlus Nord CE 5: no 7100 but 5200 mAh battery
And then there's the OnePlus Nord CE 5. So for €279 you get much of the same for that. Again, a 50+8MP camera, but with a slightly older Sony LYT-600 sensor and a slightly slower Dimensity 8350 chip. At first glance, the 5200mAh battery capacity also seems like a plus, but consider that OnePlus ships the device elsewhere with a 7100mAh version.
The Nord CE5 comes in Black Infinity and Marble Mist colors with 128 or 256GB of storage. You get 8GB of RAM with each. Whereas the Nord 5 is offered at a €50 discount, the Nord CE5 only takes €20 off the price.
