Unannounced Fairphone 4 5G approved by Wi-Fi Alliance

Fairphone is preparing a phone with 5G support. This Fairphone 4 5G has not been officially announced yet but it already has its Wi-Fi approval. The approval report appeared early at the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Dutch company Fairphone makes sustainable phones out of honest materials. The phones can be repaired by yourself, and some components can even been upgraded. This way you don't have to buy a whole new phone, you only have to change a single part. A new 48MP camera module, for example, as happened with the Fairphone 3+

It seems unlikely that existing Fairphone phones will be able to upgrade with 5G in a similar way. This requires a processor change. As far as we know that's not an easy part to change, but who knows, Fairphone might surprise us. They are going to do that anyway because we have no idea when it will announce the Fairphone 4 5G

Announce Fairphone 5G

The existence of a Fairphone with 5G was spotted by WinFuture who found an approval report from the Wi-Fi Alliance. The source thinks it could take "weeks or months" but that is still a rough estimate. There's nothing left to do but wait for an official press release.
