Second Nokia chairman in a week resigns

Nokia's chairman of the mobile division, Anssi Vanjoki, leaves the company. He's the second Nokia director leaving in a week. Before, we wrote about the resigning of CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.

Nokia is in trouble. The manufacturer of mobile devices is under growing pressure of its competitors. CEO Kallasvuo had to leave, whilst Vanjoki (54) left the company himself. His reason remains unclear. As of July 1st, Vanjoki was responsible for the entire mobile division. He worked for Nokia since 1991

New opportunities

Vanjoki says: "I felt the time has come to seek new opportunities in my life. At the same time, I am one hundred per cent committed to doing my best for Nokia until my very last working day. I am also really looking forward to this year's Nokia World and sharing news about exciting new devices and solutions." Rumour has that he wanted to beecome CEO of Nokia, and is disappointed that Canadian ex-Microsoft direct Stephen Elop got the Job.

The resignment of Vanjoki comes at an uncomfortable moment, as Nokia held the Nokia World Event in London tomorrow. News articles are now addressing the issues with the top of the company, keeping attention away from new phones that are about to be shipped.
