Best phones up to €100

Usually, for $100 or less, you could only buy a featurephone or dumbphone. These are, respectively, phones with some features and phones that only allow you to make calls. But with the rise of cheap, mostly Chinese, brands, you can even buy a smartphone for very little these days.

Android Go smartphone

Smartphones under 100 euros usually come with Android. An iPhone for this amount is only available second-hand. To make Android run somewhat smoothly, Android (Go Edition) is often used.

This edition is specially made for simple hardware. You can just install your favorite Android apps on it from the Play Store but some built-in Android apps are a bit stripped down.

Older smartphone dropped in price

In addition to a new smartphone with Android (Go Edition) for under 100 euros, another idea is to look at an older smartphone that has dropped in price. The advantage is that it is slightly more powerful and faster, and usually comes with some extra features such as a smoother display (at least 90Hz) and a better camera.

Pay attention to software support

Do pay attention to how long the phone is supported with software updates. Cheap phones don't receive new Android versions for long but that doesn't have to be a problem either. More important is how long the phone receives security updates. A critical security hole can sometimes arise in software that needs to be fixed to keep your phone safe. You don't want to walk around with a phone that is no longer being actively maintained for these types of security issues.
