Oppo A54s product details

The Oppo A54s is an affordable smartphone with a big battery, a 50MP camera, and enough space to store all those high-resolution photos and videos. But the A54s is also a phone that lacks a few things. What exactly you can read here.

Less screen for more camera

In a nutshell, the A54s from Oppo is a 50MP camera phone with a big battery for less money. It doesn't have 5G, but that shouldn't be a problem if you're not specifically looking for that. The front screen measures a generous 6.52 inches with a V-shaped notch at the top for the 8MP selfie camera. That screen displays HD images with a resolution of 1600 by 720 pixels. That's sharp enough for everyday use, but if you often read text in a small font, it could have been crisper. It is a pity that the smooth 90Hz display of its predecessor has disappeared. This A54s refreshes images with an old-fashioned 60 times per second.

50MP is the star of the show

Indeed the Oppo A54s' most significant plus is its 50MP camera. It shoots sharp photos in a high resolution and with 5x digital zoom. Remember to select this high 50-megapixel resolution after purchase because it is lower by default. Possibly to save storage. Strange because it comes with 128GB of standard storage which is above average. On the rear we also find a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth camera. This allows you to shoot close-ups of, for example, flowers and blur backgrounds. The latter is useful for portrait photos. All this, including the large 5000 mAh battery, makes the A54s a compelling phone.

Main Oppo A54s specifications

  • 6.52-inch HD+ Eye-care Display with 60Hz refresh
  • 8MP selfie camera in V-notch and with AI Beautify
  • 50+2+2MP camera system with depth and macro lens + FHD video
  • MediaTek Helio G35 processor at 2,3 GHz + 4GB of RAM
  • Standard with 128GB of storage (expandable with separate memory card)
  • Dual SIM support (2x nano-SIM)
  • Large 5000mAh battery but without fast charging

Flashy

Oppo has equipped the A54s with a MediaTek Helio G35. That's a mid-range processor for basic use. Oddly, Oppo was still using the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 with the A53s, though both don't differ much in a benchmark. RAM comes out to 4GB which is average and sufficient for most cases. On top of Android, Oppo applies its ColorOS shell, which includes additional features. This provides extra functionality and looks just a bit nicer but also takes a bite from its performance. As a result, the A54s is not flashy and fast.

Oppo launches A54s with some downgrades

Phone news ·

Oppo has launched the A54s; a smartphone with 5000 mAh large battery and a 50MP Triple camera. As the successor to the A53s, Oppo seems to make some unusual choices.

The A54s is a 6.52-inch smartphone with a generous 5000 mAh battery for nearly a day of YouTube viewing. And thanks to a special energy-saving mode, you can still squeeze several hours out of a few percentage points. The device also stands out thanks to its triple camera system with 50+2+2 megapixels.

As for the camera is concerned, that sounds like a big upgrade. After all, the Oppo A53s didn't go beyond 13MP. But in some ways, the Oppo A54s also goes backwards. For example, the high 90Hz screen refresh rate is no more and the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is traded in. In its place, we get a screen panel of "just" 60Hz and a chipset from MediaTek.

HD+ Eye-care and System Booster

According Oppo that should not be a problem because it is still an HD + Eye-care Display what means that brightness is automatically adjusted to its surroundings making reading more friendly to the eyes. And there's no slowing down thanks to System Booster, which automatically optimizes system processes to avoid lag.

50MP AI Triple Camera

Oppo also estimates that consumers will be more easily persuaded by the updated and higher resolution camera sensor. This 50MP sensor should be able to capture more detail and light due to its increased size. The other 2 cameras are both 2MP and are used to shoot depth and extreme close-ups (macro).

The Oppo A54s will be available in Crystal Black and Pearl Blue for an estimated retail price of €219. Expect this phone to hit stores soon.
