Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and Pro appear to lose cameras
New information has surfaced about the camera system of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro. It sounds less professional than the name suggests. According to the rumor, the S27 Pro's telephoto camera, which is used for zooming, is limited to 12MP. Meanwhile, the S27 Ultra will feature a 50MP version.
Megapixels only tell one side of the story. However, for a device bearing the "Pro" name for the first time, we expect the very best. And it doesn't look like we're getting that with the S27 Pro. Because ETNews reports that the device will feature a 12MP telephoto camera, whereas the S27 Ultra will receive a 50MP one.
Rumors about a Galaxy S Pro have been circulating for some time. Last year, it was rumored that this Pro model would replace the standard Galaxy S. This new product would then feature better specifications in a somewhat compact housing. This year, the rumors are different. In addition to the S27 Pro, there may also be an entry-level S27 with simpler specs. We are also receiving reports about the S27+ after earlier rumors suggested the Plus model had been scrapped.
Galaxy S27 Pro camera system
The camera system of the Galaxy S27 Pro thus appears to consist of:
- 200MP main camera
- 50MP ultra-wide-angle
- 12MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom
Differences from the Ultra model are that it features a telephoto camera with a higher 50MP resolution, while the base S27 and the S27+ have to make do with a 50+12+10MP setup. Does that combination sound familiar? That's right. Samsung has been using that same camera setup since the Galaxy S22. And the selfie camera on the entry-level S series also remains unchanged at 12MP, according to persistent rumors.
Why the S Pro does not feature the same camera specs as the Ultra is still unclear. Perhaps Samsung wants to differentiate the models sufficiently, but rising costs of RAM may also play a role in using cheaper components to keep costs down. That would also explain why the Ultra is losing its second telephoto camera and why all models in the S27 series feature three sensors. Incidentally, the launch of the S27 series is not scheduled until early 2027, so a lot could still change.
What the S27 Pro will cost is not yet known. This makes it the most important question for buyers: will you soon be paying a Pro price for a telephoto camera that is barely better than those of the entry-level models? As long as Samsung doesn't make that clear, the Ultra seems to be the only real choice within the S27 series for those who like to zoom.
