Samsung considers cheaper Chinese screen for Galaxy S27 entry-level model
Samsung and LG are leading manufacturers of smartphone screens. Therefore, it's no surprise that Samsung uses its own screens in its Galaxy S phones. However, we may have to take something else into account for the entry-level Galaxy S27.
According to rumors, Samsung is considering a screen from Chinese BOE for the S27. The other models would be equipped with a Samsung panel. The reason for not choosing its own panel is rather dubious.

It would reportedly be a cost-saving measure, according to Korean ZDNET. This is striking, as BOE apparently manages to manufacture panels more cheaply than Samsung itself can. Unfortunately for consumers, BOE panels are generally of lower quality than Samsung's.
Impact of AI boom on smartphones
Samsung has reportedly not yet made a decision, as the launch of the S27 is still too far away. It is not surprising that Samsung is looking at cost savings. Memory chip prices have skyrocketed due to the AI boom. Samsung already passed those costs on to consumers with the S26 series. Entry-level models became 100 euros more expensive.
Whether it actually comes to that remains to be seen; the launch of the device is still more than six months away. A lot can happen in the meantime. What is certain is that memory chip prices will not drop anytime soon, so Samsung will have to find ways to save costs.
