The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro is a vibrant device with some professional features. For instance, a display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a triple camera system with OIS, and a battery that keeps going. Whether it's all good or if there are hidden flaws, we're going to find out here.
We find the naming of the Redmi Note 12 Pro a bit confusing. After all, you might think you're dealing with an expensive high-end flagship. It is anything but that. Just look at the price. We're talking about a mid-range device with a matching price but with a flagship-worthy camera system. That system is carried by a 50MP primary camera with an IMX766 sensor and optical image stabilization. We usually see the latter only on expensive flagships. It provides sharper images, especially in dark conditions—something the Redmi Note 12 Pro has also been praised for in tests.
The other cameras on the back are an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a wide 119° lens, ideal for landscapes and cityscapes, and a 2MP macro camera for extreme close-ups, but it adds little. More helpful in this regard is the video camera that can shoot in 4K. That, too, is not common in this price category. All these features are made possible by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor. So, it's not a Qualcomm processor but a decent SoC that performs well for little money. Especially when you consider that at least 6GB of RAM is available, and in some versions, even 8GB.
Let's not forget the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G's screen. That's a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a high 900 nits peak brightness. That makes reading in full daylight a lot easier. Images look smooth thanks to the high 120 Hz refresh rate and delicate color fidelity table. The panel supports Dolby Vision, which is only possible if your screen meets strict requirements. The screen is also scratch-resistant thanks to the Gorilla Glass 5 panel in front of it. The only shame is that Xiaomi promises two Android upgrades on top of the Android 12 that it came out with. With competitors, think Nokia or Samsung, that's easily three or four years.
