At the CES in Las Vegas, Sony announced the Xperia S. This is the first device that wil be marketed under the name Sony. The phone was rumoured as Sony Ericsson Nozomi.
The Sony Xperia S has a 4.3 inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The device features a 1.5 GHz dual core processor from Qualcomm. At the introduction, the handset will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. In the second quarter of 2012, the Xperia S gets an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The phone has a 12 megapixel camera that can record video in 1080p. The Xperia S is the successor of the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S , and is a little thicker than its predecessor at 10.6 mm.
According to Sony, the Xperia S is the first device in the Xperia NXT series, Next Generation smartphones from Sony. The Xperia S has NFC, allowing all sorts of extra interaction between the phone and other devices with NFC chips. The phone will be available this quarter worldwide.
