Last year, Samsung surprised friend and foe with the introduction of Gorilla Glass Armor on the S24 Ultra. That glass is more scratch-resistant and much less reflective. This year, Corning's Gorilla Glass Armor 2 debuts on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. What's different this time around?
Samsung did not give many details about the new glass. And so we had to investigate on our own. The maker of the glass, Corning, describes Gorilla Glass Armor 2 as follows; "the industry's first scratch-resistant, anti-reflective glass ceramic cover material for mobile devices."

Corning has focused on better drop protection with Armor 2. The glass is said to survive falls of 2.2 meters on a rough concrete surface. While the first generation of Gorilla Glass Armor was extra scratch-resistant, it did not prove very resistant to falls.
Practice should tell
Whether this works in practice remains to be seen. Only when people start using the S25 Ultra, and dropping it, will we know the answer. In any case, we're already looking forward to JerryRigEverything's drop-test videos and scratch tests.
Should Corning succeed in combining the 2.2-meter claim with the scratch resistance and anti-reflective properties of Gorilla Glass Armor 1, they will have gold in their hands. Gorilla Glass Armor has not been used in any other phone besides the S24 Ultra, despite its great promises. Let's hope this changes with Armor 2.
