Google unveils Pixel 10a with flatter design: smallest update in years?
As announced, Google has released the Pixel 10a, which can be considered the smallest update ever. The device has a flatter profile, the camera module is now fully recessed into the body, and charging is slightly faster. Otherwise, little has changed, but does it matter?
The Pixel 10a is essentially a "re-release" of the Pixel 9a. Its appearance is hard to distinguish even for the trained eye, colors are largely the same, and internal differences are minimal.

Yet there are differences between Pixel 10a and Pixel 9a. We found a few.
Key hardware changes
- Camera module now sits completely flush with the back
- Display brightness increased from 2,700 to 3,000 nits (for better outdoor reading)
- Display glass upgraded from Gorilla Glass 3 to Gorilla Glass 7i (more scratch and crack resistant)
- Wired charging power increased from 23 to 30 watts
- Wireless charging power increased from 7.5 to 10 watts
- Satellite SOS support (contact emergency services without WiFi or cellular connectivity)
Minor design updates
Furthermore, the device is shorter due to slightly thinner screen bezels, although its width has slightly increased. The other specifications are nearly identical, including the cameras, battery capacity, and processor. Notably, Google typically equips its Pixel A-series with the same Tensor chip as its more powerful models released six months prior.

Why should consumers choose the Pixel 10a? The equivalent Pixel 9a is €162 cheaper at the time of writing, offering nearly identical hardware.
Strategic move or missed opportunity?
This limited upgrade seems like a strategic move by Google to clear remaining stock of the Tensor G4 chipset rather than an attempt to surprise consumers. This makes the Pixel 10a difficult to recommend while the 9a is still in stores.
Availability and colors
Google will ship the Pixel 10a starting March 5 in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian. The starting price is €549, matching the 9a launch price. This includes 128GB of storage. A 256GB version costs an additional €100. Can't wait until March 5? Get the Pixel 9a today for €387.
