Delay Nokia N-series and E-sries, rumours about new N72

Via Reuters new information has come out that the launch of the new N- and E-series has been delayed again. Next to that there are new rumours concerning a new model.

Nokia has some problems concerning the release of the new N- and E-series. The devices that should have hit the market the last few months are still not around and are delayed. A good example of this is the new N91, that should have been available on the 1st of April. Maybe it was an April fool, because the expectation is that the device will be around in May.

The same counts for some other devices that have been shifted due to software problems. This is not a good sign for Nokia, also because new introductions are planned for the upcoming months and those will be shifted also.

The new N73 and N93 discussed a week ago, will also be delayed is the expectation, but there is no clarification of that until this point. The current news about new products is coming from the Russian Mobile-Review.com forum indicating a new N72 device. The N73 also came from a topic on this forum so it could be quite credible.

After some searching it came out that the N72 is a direct successor of the N70 with comparable looks but in a black colour, 2.0 Mpixel camera, 3G, Symbian v9.1 and Series 60 3rd Edition. Furthermore the N73 will be build on a new platform with a different position for the memory card and quite different looks.

The pictures shown below are taken by persons which claim to have seen the device or were brought outside by the US FCC organisation. Looking at these pictures it is quite clear that there are two devices in the stage of development. When more information will come out we will inform you as soon as possible.

The following story originated from Reuters tell us that the new Nokia E-series and N-series are delayed until the next weeks. The devices will hit the market around Europe as mentioned in the story below:

Nokia Smartphones Delayed

Software bugs postpone the release of six advanced mobile phones from Finnish giant.

Nokia said Monday that software problems had delayed the release of six models of its latest smartphones.

The company plans to begin shipping its N91 music phone this week, with the N71 and N80 phones beginning to ship later this month, according to Reuters. The N91 has a 4-gigabyte hard drive for holding thousands of songs.

The company had hoped to release the N91 by the end of last year, in time for the holiday shopping season, but then pushed back the scheduled release date to the first quarter. It’s a little late on that goal as well.

The company’s enterprise division is also late on its end-of-March shipment goal for its E60, E61, and E71 phones. As with the N-series phones, the Helsinki, Finland-based phone maker wants to make sure the software has been thoroughly tested. Priority will be given to the E61, which has a full keyboard.

Shares of Nokia fell $0.06 to $20.66 in recent trading.

Despite the delays, Nokia is continuing to come out with announcements of new devices. At the CTIA Wireless 2006 show in Las Vegas this week, Nokia plans to unveil technology for wireless Internet calling with a new device called the Nokia 6136 UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access).

In other Nokia news, a New York judge last Friday dismissed all the claims made in a class-action securities lawsuit against the company. Judge Kenneth M. Karas of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted Nokia’s motion to dismiss the claims, which had been filed against the company and several of its executives in April 2004.

In a 77-page opinion, Judge Karas reviewed each of the allegations and dismissed all the claims with prejudice. He also denied the plaintiffs the right to file an amended complaint.

“Nokia is very pleased with the decision, as the company has not at any stage of the case believed there to be any merit to the plaintiffs’ allegations,” said the company in a statement.
