Appearing icons reveal possible redesign of Samsung Galaxy Watch 8

Deep in the firmware of One UI 8 Watch, which is meant for smartwatches, icons of the as yet unannounced Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic have been found. What is special about this is that we see a different design, namely square with a round screen, just like the current Watch Ultra.

Samsung makes round smartwatches, Apple square ones. This much was the case for years since Samsung came out with the square Watch Ultra in 2024. Although square, the screen was still round. Looking at the images below, one would initially think we are looking at the same Watch Ultra, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Because according to the source, and the caption, the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Watch 8 Classic are involved. Both will have a similar square body that houses a round screen. According to previous rumors, the Watch 8 will come out in two sizes, the Classic in one.

Watch 8 Classic with Quick Button

We can't tell from the images whether the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic features a rotating bezel, which was previously talked about, but we do see an additional button on the right side. It is quite possible that this is the same Quick Button that we also previously saw on the Ultra. Only difference is that that button is not bright orange like on the Ultra.

No info yet on Watch Ultra 2

The source considers further that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will get a more powerful vibration function and is codenamed "Wise 8." Information about a successor to the Galaxy Watch Ultra is not given. Nor iet how big the two formats in which the Watch 8 will come out are.

Expected Galaxy Watch 8 series announcement

Samsung usually announces its smart watches in the second half of the year. So earlier than July, you don't have to expect the Watch 8 series. That was not entirely coincidentally the month when Samsung announced the Watch 7.
