Apple still largest player in U.S. smartphone market
The United States is still largest market for smartphones. Manufacturers therefore look forward to new sales figures from the US. Nielsen came up with the data of the second quarter.
In an illuminating infographic Nielsen shows the market position of different manufacturers and operating systems, which quickly shows how the various market shares relate to each other. This shows that Apple is the largest manufacturer and Android is the largest operating system. If we look at the Android manufacturers, then HTC is doing well. With Windows Phone, the Taiwanese manufacturer leads as well.

Nokia continues to play a minor role to the U.S. market. Symbian OS is good for no more than 2 percent of the market, and is just as popular as HP’s webOS. BlackBerry has still a good fifth of the market, but the company is facing delining sales. Due to the growth of Android and to a lesser extent Apple, the brand loses market share.
