Xiaomi 17 Pro Max beats iPhone 17 Pro Max in battery test, but not by much

While we here are still waiting for the Xiaomi 17 series to come out, the guys at TechDroider already have one in their hands. Not only that, but they also have the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max in their hands, as well as some other high-end flagships. So it was time for a little test with impressive results.

Just a reminder; the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max was recently announced with a 7500 mAh large battery. In terms of capacity as big as a tablet, that is. That should almost humble the 5088 mAh battery of the iPhone 17 Pro Max one would think. But as is often the case, the soup is not eaten so hot.

Techdroider Battery Test of Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and others

Because that Apple has its act together is evident from the test results. In these, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max does beat the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the difference is minimal. In the end, the Xiaomi only lasts 5 minutes longer. So there seems to be some gains for Xiaomi there.

TechDroider's test consists of a range of tasks, including;

  • 3 hours of playing PUBG on the highest settings
  • 3 hours of watching YouTube videos
  • 1.5 hours of Internet via Chrome or Safari
  • 1.5 hours of using Instagram
  • 4K video recording until the battery runs out

The final score does not lie; on top of Xiaomi and Apple with competition from OnePlus, Google and Samsung at some distance.

Battery life
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max13 hours and 36 minutes
iPhone 17 Pro Max13 hours and 31 minutes
Xiaomi 15 Pro12 hours and 31 minutes
OnePlus 1311 hours and 56 minutes
Pixel 10 Pro XL11 hours and 28 minutes
Galaxy S25 Ultra11 hours and 20 minutes

Why Xiaomi does not manage to get more out of the battery of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is unclear. What also doesn't help is that the models with the large batteries may only be available in China. It is rumored that the international versions will be equipped with a 10% smaller battery. If true then this will affect the test results and the device will sink inexorably.
