During the Made By Google event, Google also showed a new smartwatch. The Pixel Watch 2 resembles its predecessor but is faster, measures new things, and can go 12 hours with 30 minutes of charging.
The Google Pixel Watch 2 appears to feature the same display as its predecessor. It is round with a diameter of 1.2 inches, has a resolution of 450x450 pixels, and features a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. By comparison, the display of Apple's Apple Watch Series 9 is 2x as bright.
Google promises 24 hours of usage with the screen always on. What also remains the same is the mechanism to change bands. That means you can use first-generation Pixel Watch straps on the Pixel Watch 2. The casing is IP68 waterproof (ATM 5) and protected by a convex-shaped Gorilla Glass 5 glass piece.
Faster quad-core processor
Inside the Watch 2, we find a new quad-core processor: the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1, also known as the Qualcomm 5100. This chip enables new features, including Safety Check, allowing you to let loved ones know when you have arrived home safely. Your location can also be shared in real-time.
Also, new sensors have been added while existing ones have been improved. For example, the heart rate sensor is now up to 40% more accurate, thanks partly to better AI models. The added temperature sensor lets you measure skin temperature, and the Body Response sensor can measure stress levels. When the Pixel Watch 2 detects high levels of stress, it can make suggestions on how to lower it.
Pixel Watch 2 prices, bands, and availability
The Google Pixel Watch 2 is shipped with Wear OS 4 and comes with six months of free FitBit Premium. The watch retails for $349 or €348.95 for the WiFi model. A version with 4G is also coming out, so you don't have to pair it with a phone.
The casing is available in aluminum, black, gold, and polished silver. Strap choices are Bay (blue), Obsidian (black), Haze (green/gray) and Porcelain (beige). The watch will be in stores in week 41.
