Nokia continues E-series line-up with a newly emerged device called E61i

After the big success of the E61 and other E-series within Europe a successor should have been the logical step. The successor has emerged today and leaked into the open. The new E61i is build on the E61 basis but with a lot of changes.

First of all it is quite clear from the pictures that the color setup of the device has changed. A metal-black color cover is used, which gives the device very distinctive looks. Next to that the main soft keys and central joystick have been replaced for a new set of keys. The new main central joystick is quite familiar to what we see on the current Nokia 6280, 6080 and 6070 models. Two new soft keys have been added to this part of the keypad. The E61 only had three keys on either side of the central joystick. The new E61i has four on either side indicating the following functions: (from left to right) Browser, Menu, Message and Multimedia. The new setup of keys will enhance the ease of use of the new product with respect to the "old" E61.

On the back side it is quite clear that a camera has been added to the device. We expect that the E61i will be equipped with a 2.0 Mpixel camera familiar to the camera in the E70. However this information is not confirmed at this stage.

The main specifications of the device will be a QVGA display with 16.000.000 colors and adjustable display brightness setting, build-in Bluetooth, infrared port, pop-port, push mail support, SMS, EMS, MMS, GPRS, EDGE, XHTML internet browser (currently the best available browser), Office support (Words, Excel and Powerpoint support), PDF file support, flight mode, Symbian v9.x operating system and Series 60 3rd Edition user interface.

There is no confirmation about the availability of Wifi, 3G/UMTS nor HSDPA. But we expect that all these connectivity functions will be implemented into the new device. When more information is known we will inform you as soon as possible. However we expect that Nokia will introduce this new device together with some other interesting products at the end of this month during Nokia world in Amsterdam.
