Microsoft relaxes Windows Phone device requirements

Microsoft has eased the requirements for a Windows Phone device. The software giant sets tough conditions for manufacturers who create a device with the mobile OS from Microsoft.

Previously it was required to have a camera on the phone. Both the camera on the front and rear are now optional. The gyroscope, which measures the tilt of the phone, and the compass are now optional. The compass and the gyroscope already were missing in the HTC Radar. Microsoft is probably leaving out some parts in order to give manufacturers the opportunity to make inexpensive smartphones with Windows Phone.

ZTE, a Chinese manufacturer, has plans for a cheap Windows Phone device, and now has the freedom to let the camera away. Other requirements, such as 8 GB of storage space, a screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and a processor running at 1 GHz or more still exist.
