Nokia Maps comes to all Windows Phones without Drive

Good news for anyone with a Windows Phone device that has not been made by Nokia, or consider buying one. Nokia Maps comes to these devices. Unfortunately this is not true for Nokia Drive.

Sometime in the coming weeks, the new app will come to the Windows Phone Marketplace. The maps in the app come from Nokia subsidiary Navteq, which offers maps that are known for their quality. It is therefore unfortunate but understandable that Nokia keeps the navigation option for phones of its own brand.

Got the cards, not the navigation on non-Nokia Windows Phones

The release of Nokia Maps for Windows Phone is to been seen as part of the deal between Microsoft and Nokia. This deal does not only mean that the Finnish smartphonemaker comes with Windows Phone devices, but also gives Microsoft the right to use certain services from Nokia. Reportedly the deal was sealed with the transaction of billions of dollars from Microsoft to Nokia.
