Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 gets virtually crease-free inner display

Previous renders of the Flip 8 had been leaked, and they were rather disappointing. While earlier leaks showed hardly any visual changes, new information indicates a crucial internal revision: a virtually crease-free display.

Users appreciate the compact design of foldables, but the prominent crease remains a major point of irritation. Manufacturers have been trying to find a solution for years. They previously tried to solve this with mechanical supports; recent innovations use 3D-printed padding to mask unevenness. For example, the Oppo Find N6 features the world's first imperceptible screen crease. And you can tell!

Samsung seems to have paid attention and is coming up with something similar for the Flip 8. According to new rumors from South Korea, the compact flip phone will get a new hinge and a screen without a noticeable crease. Samsung has so far prioritized improved waterproofing and a thinner design over fully leveling the display.

Hardware stagnation: Flip 8 retains outdated camera setup

We now know that the rest of the Flip 8 remains virtually unchanged. It is slightly lighter than its predecessor and slightly longer, but otherwise differences will be minimal. For example, we still expect the same two cameras on the back: a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle. Samsung has been using this same duo since the Flip 6.

One thing we hope has been adjusted is the battery capacity. Limited physical space in clamshell devices forces manufacturers to make concessions; while competitors are switching to silicon-carbon for higher density, Samsung is lagging behind.

However, it is unlikely that Samsung will switch to SiC. Samsung has been very cautious about adopting new battery technologies since the Note 7. It is therefore even possible that the battery capacity of the 8 matches the Flip 7: an inadequate 4300 mAh, which, given the power consumption of the main screen, remains critical for a full working day.
