MWC 2009: Overview of new devices for 2009

We have seen many new devices during the MWC in Barcelona. Which devices will become THE devices in 2009? We will show you some nominees.

The yearly Mobile World Congress is the platform for introducing new mobile phones. This year is no different. All devices mentioned below have been added to our database. Just take a look around, click on the devices, take a look at the pictures added to each device.

Nokia

Nokia is making 5 devices available in the beginning of 2009, like their first 8 megapixel device; the N86 8MP. An interesting fact was that Nokia didn't announce this device in their press conference. Only one day later this device was announced officially. Unfortunately the Nokia devices are still missing face recognition, Smile Shot, Blink Shot and other gimmicks.

Other devices that are interesting are the business E55 and E75. The E55 has a SureType keyboard and is therefore Nokias most compact smartphone ever. This device supposedly also has a standby of almost a month! The E75 is a full QWERTY keyboard, mainly aiming at messaging features.

Samsung

Samsung had many devices with the touchscreen technology, that can be controlled by using the well known TouchWiz user interface. Most of the devices also have a 8 megapixel camera, including added possibilities like face recognition, Smile Shot, Blink Shot. It is also possible to shoot videos in HD quality with a high resolution. The Omnia HD even records videos in a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels!

We've also spotted a lot of devices with an AMOLED display. We can conclude that Samsung was the most innovative this year.

Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson started to tease us with a 12 megapixel camera device; the idou. Specifications haven't made public, but Sony Ericsson is going to combine

Fortunately the brand could also give us a device that is expected in the short term; the 8.1 megapixel W995 Walkman. The device has a 8 GB memory card for all your music.

LG

LG did already announce the KM900 the weeks before the MWC; the new pride of the South Koreans. The company is especially proud of the S-class interface. There are more devices equipped with this interface, like the GM730 that is running under Windows Mobile.

There was also a Symbian S60 slider present at the LG stand; the KT770. The brand is apparently aiming at multiple operating systems, like Samsung is.

HTC

HTC brought us three new devices, but the Touch Diamond2 and the Touch Pro2weren't that much different. The new look is the biggest difference with its predecessor. We now have to wait for Windows Mobile 6.5; HTC is going to bring a free update for the users of these devices to make the devices finally 'real' Windows Phones.

A new Android phone was also announced; the Magic. The G1 was exclusively made for T-Mobile customers, but the Magic is solely meant for Vodafone customers.
