Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra first with Gorilla Glass Armor

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, announced Jan. 17, 2024, is the first smartphone equipped with Corning's Gorilla Glass Armor. This new type of glass should offer better protection against scratches, for example, from keys.

The partnership between Corning and Samsung dates back 50 years. Most people will know Corning for the phone glass they manufacture: Gorilla Glass. It provides extra scratch resistance and offers protection against fall damage. Over the years, Corning presented a new generation of glass each time, with this time Gorilla Glass Armor.

According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Armor is the most robust glass ever and is 4x more scratch-resistant than competing glass. We know from previous versions of Gorilla Glass that they begin to scratch slightly at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deep grooves at 7. Whether the same will be true of Gorilla Glass Armor or whether it manages to withstand more will soon be seen during JerryRigEverything's famous durability test.

Reduces reflections up to 75%

Another benefit of Gorilla Glass Armor is that it is less reflective. Ambient light is reflected 75% less, making reading your screen easier. That might be even more necessary this time because the glass on the front of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is flat. According to Samsung, that's more convenient for use with the S Pen.
