Video shows: Apple iPhone 17 Air is “scary thin”
Prototype shows almost impossibly thin iPhone
Lewis George Hilsenteger, known for his YouTube channel Unbox Therapy, has had molds made of the iPhone 17 Air. Already while unboxing, we are amazed at its thinness.
The iPhone 17 Air is getting thin. Just how thin becomes clear from this video from Unbox Therapy. They had molds made of the Apple iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. But especially the Air stands out for its thickness. Or rather, its lack thereof.
We do have some question marks after seeing the video. How good will the battery life be? A very large battery won't fit inside. And how sturdy will the device be? Will there be a new bendgate? And what kind of case should you use for this? You buy the Air primarily because of its impossibly thin body. A case completely ruins that.
We won't get answers to our questions until the fall, when Apple unveils the iPhone 17 series. Whether Tim Cook will pull the iPhone 17 Air out of a manila envelope in the process like Steve Jobs did back then with the first-generation MacBook Air remains to be seen, but it would be a nice reference.
The danger of first-generation Apple products
At the time, that was enough reason for people to buy the thin Macbook Air ultrabook, including yours truly. Whether that's a good idea is a second. First-generation Apple products are usually not the best investments. For example, my first Macbook Air came with an agonizingly slow hard drive instead of a fast SSD, and Apple never released an adapter for the exotic Micro-DVI port on the side. The latter was therefore immediately traded for a Mini DisplayPort with the next model.
