Apple iPhone 17 gets bigger screen, but same processor
The first iPhone came on the market with a 3.5-inch display. According to Apple, it was the perfect size to operate a phone with. They are revisiting that with the iPhone 17, as it will reportedly have a larger screen.
The screen size of the iPhone 17 goes up from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, according to an analyst. And that's pretty much where the differences end as Apple gives the 17th iPhone the same A processor as last year; the A18 with 8GB of RAM memory.

At the time, the iPhone 16 from 2024 received a major processor upgrade for its time; it skipped the A17 and went from the A16 Bionic straight to the A18. That was necessary to enable Apple Intelligence. Not that it was of much use to him, as the service still cannot do what Apple promised in 2024.
iPhone 17: much of the same
This strategy is not new, Apple also equipped the iPhone 14 with the same processor as the iPhone 13. Although that one did get more RAM memory at the time to ease that pain. The Apple iPhone 17 will feature the same 8GB of RAM memory. Other differences include a smoother 120Hz screen (finally!) and perhaps an updated selfie camera.
For more RAM, you'll have to go with the iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and the expected iPhone 17 Air next year. Those reportedly feature 12GB of RAM memory.
Keynote 2025
We'll hear the answer in September. That's when Apple usually holds its keynote in which it will unveil the new iPhone generation. Possibly Apple does have a surprise in store; a name change. iOS 19 may soon go by as iOS 26, and Apple may want to keep the iPhone's type numbers in sync with that.
