Sony announces Xperia 10 VII with traditional aspect ratio
After more than a year, Sony has announced another new phone: the Xperia 10 VII. This mid-range phone features an updated camera and a two-day battery life. The device will be available in three colors starting Friday, September 19.
The Sony Xperia 10 VII looks unmistakably like a Sony phone from the front. Unlike what its competitors have been doing for years, Sony persists in applying thick bezels above and below the screen. This does have the advantage that there is no notch or cutout in the screen for the selfie camera. This provides an uninterrupted screen experience in addition to an old-fashioned look.
At the back, Sony applies a new camera bar, this time applied horizontally across the entire width. It immediately makes the Xperia 10 VII look very modern. Sony has applied two better sensors than we saw on the Xperia 10 VI; a 50 instead of 48MP for the main camera and a 13 instead of 8MP for the ultra-wide-angle.
More traditional ratio
This is not the only design change. Sony is finally moving away from the 21:9 aspect ratio and adopting a more traditional 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This makes the device slightly wider and less tall. This will make typing on the keyboard much easier. Whether this design foreshadows future Sony phones remains to be seen.
Sony is now also applying a physical shutter button to the cheaper Xperia 10 VII, something that is already commonplace on the Xperia 1 series. Not only do you take pictures with it, you also use it to open the camera app. Sony further promises a battery life of as much as two days and the screen supports higher 120Hz display this time.
