Rumor: There will be no international version of the Xiaomi 17 Pro

It's pretty much the most popular phone you can't buy: the Xiaomi 17 Pro. And according to new rumors, it might stay that way. A doomsday scenario for many, where the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are only meant for Chinese users.

Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max on Sept. 25, and both immediately received a lot of attention due to the secondary screen on the back. In addition to being functional, this one was just plain funny. For example, because of the cheerful animations of animals you could display on it.

Only the Xiaomi 17 Series may be coming from this Xiaomi 17

But where you could still just buy previous Xiaomi Pro phones here, you may not be able to with the Xiaomi 17 Pro. At least some insiders think so. The total lack of prospects for an international launch is also a sign of things to come. There are reportedly plans to release the Xiaomi 17 and even the Xiaomi 17 Ultra worldwide, though.

International Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra

The latter is notable because we don't see the Ultra model in European stores more often than not. Xiaomi is reportedly currently preparing the Indian launch of both models, which would foreshadow an international launch. Both the entry-level Xiaomi 17 and more elaborate Xiaomi 17 Ultra do not feature the coveted screen at the back.

Xiaomi 17 Pro reviews

Some websites have already posted reviews of the Xiaomi 17 Pro by having one shipped over from China. The device doesn't work in the US, but in Europe, in theory, it does. It depends on which carrier you have and which 4G/5G bands are supported.

We sincerely hope that Xiaomi will reconsider if it doesn't want to release the Xiaomi 17 Pro series internationally, there seems to be enough appetite for it. An almost perfect time for that launch is the Mobile World Congress in early 2026 in Barcelona. Xiaomi more often announces its new flagship series during this trade show. Let's hope next year is no different.
